If $3√4x$ = 24, what is the value of $-72x$?
The correct answer is -1152.
current priority level - we all want this one
There are some potentially interesting conversations to have here, though we certainly do not all want to have the same conversations. Bottom line, though, is that we all want to confidently smash this question.
It is definitely impactful to know that we can type $3√4x = 24$ in to desmos, because desmos can solve an equation like this. If we zoom out after typing in the equation, we can move around as well and zoom back in to confirm that the solution that desmos is showing us is 16.
Knowing that x is 16, we can compute what we are rather randomly being asked to compute: the value of $-72x$. Firing -72 x 16 in to our calculators, we come to the correct answer of -1152.
As a closing comment tied to this question(at least for now) is that it does seem like the test writers are consciously crafting this question so that it can be executed via desmos. This does not mean that we should feel forced to go the desmos route. But, a fluency with desmos is part of nearly all of our training regimens.
