We see the word “minimum”, and we think desmos.

We know that random letters like ‘e’ and ‘p’ will not be processes the way want them to process, so we swap them for $y$ and $x$’s.

Having typed $y = 4x^2 - 4x + 11$ in to desmos, we zoom out once, and we can see the point (0.5, 10) that we can click on.

We know to type in 10 as our correct answer for one of two reasons or both….

• i) The “minimum” itself is always the $y$-value.
• ii) If the test writers wanted the $x$-value, they pretty much have to directly mention $x$.
