But, depending on the precise question, we might want (A), because it is less specific.

If we imagine that the first sentence within the Notes Q is “The student wants to explain why the call was not deemed successful.”, then we want a more specific option like (B).

That said, if we imagine that the first sentence within the Notes Q is “The student wants to make a generalization about how the call went.”, then we want a less specific option like (A).(You see the keyword within the hypothetical question, yes?)
